MUSIC OF FINLAND CONCERT SERIES (CHINA SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL 2017)
Sibelius Society of Finland and Shanghai Orient Culture Business Co. Ltd have in cooperation organized two “Music of Finland” concert series in connection of the 19th China Shanghai International Arts Festival 2017.
Chinese music lovers will be introduced to Sibelius in a series of nine concerts to be held as part of the China Shanghai International Arts Festival in Shanghai, Wuxi, Changzhou, Hefei and Ningbo. The performers include Folke Gräsbeck, one of the best known interpreters of Sibelius' piano music. The concerts kick off a new cultural partnership between the Sibelius Society of Finland and the China Symphony Development Foundation.

IMPORTANT MILESTONE IN CHINESE-FINNISH CULTURAL RELATIONSHIPS
SIBELIUS-SOCIETY OF FINLAND AGREES ON CO-OPERATION WITH THE CHINA SYMPHONY DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
June 14th, 2017 Sibelius-Society of Finland and China Symphony Development Foundation signed Co-operation Agreement to promote Chinese - Finnish cultural relationships in the area of classical music.
All 73 symphony orchestras of China are members of this foundation. Sibelius-Society of Finland was established December 7th, 1957 to cherish and promote the musical heritage of Finland´s greatest composer Jean Sibelius.
The first projects in this co-operation is a series of nine concerts organized as “Music of Finland” event in connection of the Shanghai International Arts Festival Nov 6th through 18th in Shanghai, Wuxi, Changzhou, Hefei and Ningbo.
The performers in the concerts Nov 6th through 11th, is pianist, Dr. Mus. Folke Gräsbeck, one of the best known interpreters of Sibelius' piano music in Finland. In the concerts Nov 14th through 18th the performers are young, internationally upcoming artists of the Roozeman Family, Jan-Paul (piano), Jonathan (cello) and Rebecca (violin) and Jamin and Jason Hu (piano). They all have studied in the Espoo Music institute in Espoo, Finland and subsequently in the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland.
The program in these concerts is based on the Sibelius-piano pieces and Chamber Orchestra works to give the Chinese music lovers an opportunity to acquaintance themselves with the music of Sibelius. China Symphony Development Foundation has especially emphasized that it would like to have a well know Sibelius interpreter and young upcoming artists to perform in these concerts.
The “co-operational” concerts will be organized on Nov 8th and Nov 15th in the famous Shanghai Concert Hall. In addition a Sibelius-Seminar will be held on Nov 14th in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where also master classes in piano are organized the same day. The lecturer will be the Chief Editor of the Sibelius Collective works professor Timo Virtanen and master classes will be given by pianist Dr. Mus. Folke Gräsbeck. Master classes of piano and lectures of Finnish music education will be organized on Nov 16th in the Ningbo Institute of TAFE. The principal of Espoo Music Institute, Paula Jordan, will lecture and Chief piano teacher, Sanna Vaarni, will give piano master classes.
"My colleague Henry Hu and I have been working very hard the past year and a half to establish and strengthen the cultural relationships between China and Finland" says Lauri Ratia, the Chairman of the Sibelius-Society of Finland. "Henry and I are extremely pleased that we can invite public to join these events in November."
