Gabriella on enkelinsukuinen löytölapsi Hiekkasärkässä. Häntä ei oltu siunattu jumallisella kontekstilla, joten hänen kasvatuksen sai vastuulleen Turandarok akatemia. Lapsuusvuodet olivat lasten leikkiä, mutta kaikki alkoi muuttua murrosiän kynnyksellä.

Poikia alkoi kiinnostaa Gabriellan mystisen viehättävä ulkomuoto ja tyttöjä vasta vuoroin kadehdittaa. Monen laista dramatiikkaa ja kiusaa alettiin siis harrastamaan nuorten keskuudessa.

Pahin oli vielä kuitenkin edessä, kun 4708 Hiekkasärkkä oli joutua Lamasthun polttouhriksi. Kaikkein kurjinta oli että tekijäksi paljastui kaiken koston ja katkeruuden takaa toinen aasimar nainen Nualia, edesmenneen Ezekiel Tobynin löytölapsi. Tässä kohtaa Gabriellan osaksi oli joutua sietämään pilkkaa, epäluuloa, syrjintää ja jopa uhkaa nyt jo aikuistenkin Hiekkasärkkäläisten osalta. Tämä vaikutti voimakkasti nuoreen naiseen joka masentui ja menetti elämänhalunsa.

Sattui kuitenkin niin, että eräänä päivä Shalelu Andosana Hiekkasärkän metsien ja mantujen suojelija sattui kylään täydentämään reppuaan ja kertomaan kyläläisille päivityksiä, mitä sen ympäristössä oli tapahtunut gobliiniuhan kukistuttua.

Gabriella sattui näkemään tämän muukalaisen saapumisen ja kiinnostui välittömästi tämän viehkeistä pitkistä korvista. Kun selvisi mitä tämä toimitteli kylän ulkopuolella, Gabriella vaati päästä kokelaaksi, päästäkseen edes hetkeksi ulos helvetiksi muuttuneesta kylästä. Akatemiassa oltiin Gabriellasta ja tämän vaikutukseen muihin nuoriin jo sen verran huolestuttu, että viikon lupa samoiluun annettiin nopeasti.

Kaksi vuotta sitten Gabriella marssi ulos pohjoisportista avointa maailmaa ihmetellen Shalelun vanavedessä... eikä häntä ole sen kuummin nähty, monet jo kokonaan unohtaneetkin. Shalelu on kyllä tuonut sanan harvoille, että tyttö kasvaa nyt kasvaa aikuuteen Hiekkasärkän ympäristössä samoillen, gobliineja jahdaten ja muita vaaroja tarkkaillen kuin Shalelun perintönä ikään. Onpä hän kuulemma löytänyt ja kesyttänytkin paikallisen tuliraitapuuman pennunkin suojelijakseen.
